All Hail the Robin

My favourite quote of all is by Victor Hugo – “Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come.”

An afternoon’s doodling on a quiet afternoon in October produced this little man…

He was originally designed for my 2017 Christmas card but I also had him made up into a larger print for my window display. The first afternoon he went on display five people came in asking to buy the print. So I started taking orders…and more orders…

Then he was immortalised on mugs, tins and bags. I sold out within a week! More were placed on order… and the robin frenzy continued!

The cards flew out of the door…

What quickly became apparent as he chirruped his way through December was just how much we British LOVE our red breasted little friend!

However another theme also emerged. One which caused me great surprise. It seems so very many of us have a resident robin who we believe to be a departed relative. In most cases this was the customer’s father or father figure who was sadly no longer with us. It seems that the robin represents something far greater than just a fluffy little creature, it also represents our connection with the ‘other side.’

This is why the robin is such a significant symbol at Christmas. It draws those who are dear to us closer, bringing comfort and hope. And of course, Love.

So if you want a little piece of your own ‘All Hail the Robin’ then get in touch by phone, email or just pop into the shop.
